Christmas is my favourite time of the year but with each passing year, the Christmas spirit takes longer to kick in. For me, it is important to get in the festive mood early because the season is very short. So from as early as November, I get started on my list of activities that helps me with that. Apart from indulging in the eats and drinks, I look forward to spending time with family and binge-watching Christmas Movies. Some people get caught up with the last minute shopping and cleaning so they never get to enjoy the holidays. Continue reading this post to see how to get in a festive spirit this year.
Clean Up Early
Before decorating, get a head start on cleaning the house. Put away all fall decor and replace with Christmas decorations.
Get A Christmas Tree
You can buy a real tree or reuse the one from the previous year. Decide on a theme or colour scheme, buy new decorations and decorate it.
Go Gift Shopping
One of the things I look forward to doing every year is gift shopping. Buying gifts for others give me a feeling inside that I can not explain. It is a quick way to feel the Christmas joy especially after wrapping them and putting them below the Christmas tree.
An easy way to get in that mood is by baking your favourite Christmas pastries. Baking may not be everyone’s strong suit but baking something as simple as cookies does the trick. Share them with your neighbours or work colleagues as a way to bring in the holiday feeling.
Watch Christmas Movies
Netflix has a wide range of Christmas-themed movies every year in which you can enjoy. Home Alone 1 and 2 are classics that I can’t get tired of looking at. I have never heard of anyone who doesn’t like to watch at least one of them.
Listen to Christmas Carols
While doing your house chores try listening to a Christmas Carols playlist. Not everyone likes them but there are so many remakes that you must find one to enjoy. One of my all-time favourite is “All I Want For Christmas” by Mariah Carey. Her and Luther Vandross’s Christmas Albums are a must-listen for me.
Decorate Your Workspace
Sometimes it is necessary to take it upon yourself and decorate your workspace. Especially if your employer has not made the effort to spread the Christmas cheer. All you need are some ribbons, lights, pinecones, balls, garlands or a wreath, some poinsettias and bows. These are the basics and are widely accepted in most offices and public places.
