The Best Perfumes I Ever Used

Firstly I’ll start off by reviewing the best perfumes I ever used and recommend and finish off with the ones that I am currently coveting. So recently I was looking at my perfume collection and realised there are quite a few that I love but never did a review of them.

The Best Perfumes I Ever Used And Recommend 1

Featured in this post is a review of the Versace bright crystal perfume and lotion set, as well as the YSL Opium perfume. I also talk about one of the most overrated perfumes which happens to be from Ja Malone London. It was such a long time ago since

I purchased and used these designer perfumes and my collection has grown since. Some of them I still use up to this current day, and some of them I have stopped buying. So I figured it would be fun to round them up and review them in one post.

The Best Perfumes For Women Review:

My Collection

Whenever I buy a new perfume or get them as gifts I never imagine that they would last me for months. However, looking back now, I am amazed as to the length of time they actually lasted. While I have a few, I do not consider myself a collector although I really love perfumes. To be classed as a perfume collector I believe one should have a wide range of different fragrances.

Before we get into the review you should know that most of the perfumes recommended here are on the fruity side. Those are the fragrances that appeal to me most but I promise they are not unbearably sweet. Now I’ll just dive into each one individually describing them as best as possible. Here goes:

Lancome – La Vie Est Belle

Back in 2015 around the time, Lancome launched the La Vie Est Belle it was just too irresistible to pass up. In fact, I did not plan on purchasing it (usually the case for all my perfumes). But I didn’t mind it just for so because the sales assistant had me sold on the tester. Out of all the perfumes I ever owned, this one might top in terms of sweetness. It has a very distinctive smell and I can usually tell when someone else is wearing it. The smell is guaranteed to last on you all day so no need to worry about fading.

Lancome Trésor in Love

Another Lancome fragrance, however, I initially bought it as a gift for a friend I think it was back in 2016. Due to my inability to deliver it to her before leaving from my vacation, it ended up back home with me. As you can see it ended being my everyday perfume which I still have some to this day. After all, it made sense to keep it because I was not able to ship it to her. Neither was I able to fly to her country within a reasonable time period. Lancome is definitely a keeper and this one also lasts a long time before fading.

Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium

My favourite out of all is this Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium. Whenever I land one that I absolutely love, I only use them on special occasions.  Lasts all day as well and I am beginning to think I have a gift with choosing great perfumes.

JoMalone London Lime Basil And Mandarin

Lately, I have been experimenting with perfumes that are totally out of my comfort zone. For example this Lime Basil and Mandarin cologne by JaMalone London which has a woody smell. I dislike woody scents and its still not a favourite, at least not yet but I am open to trying new things at times.

JoMalone products appear to have a very distinctive smell so it may not be easy for someone to guess it unless they use it themselves. What I do know for sure is that it lasts all day and does not fade at all. See towards of the end of this post where I talk about the most overrated fragrances from this brand.

Versace Bright Crystal Perfume

I have been using the Versace Bright Crystal Perfume for years now and I thought it was about time to review it. It has a distinctive smell, stays on all day, it’s really sweet and fruity just the way I like it. Great perfume to buy if you like these type of smells and if you’re now starting a collection.

It makes me think about Cherry Blossoms and fruity fragrances. Although I love fruity fragrances, I also do not like perfumes that are very strong or sweet. Versace Bright Crystal has a fruity but mild scent and that is one of the reasons I enjoy using it.

Like with any other perfume, it comes in various sizes.  Smaller sizes of the Versace Bright Crystal retails for around $100 in gift sets. When sold separately, the larger size cost about $112. The one I got came with a 90 ml / 3.0 oz perfume and a 100 ml / 3.0 oz body lotion.

With this perfume you only need a few spritz and it lasts all day long. Some days I use it for work but prefer to wear it when going out.  A lot of people usually give a lot of complements or would ask what perfume it is.

On the milder side but still close enough to the perfume. Its consistency is somewhat runny. So be careful when squeezing the tube because a lot may be released. This seems to be the only thing I don’t really like.

My preference is butters or thick creams since the moisture tend to stay on my skin longer. However, it is as gorgeous as the perfume and it doesn’t bother me that much. For me the perfume is more important and the lotion is like an added bonus.

  • smells really good
  • long lasting
  • economical
  • gift giving item

  • the lotion has a runny consistency which means you may have to reapply a few times

Would I buy this product when it runs out? Of course! Maybe not the lotion but definitely the perfume. Another great thing about this set is that it makes the perfect gift giving the item.

One of the most overrated fragrances I have recently used is from Jo Malone London. Over the Christmas holidays, I decided to capitalize on Nordstrom gifting by purchasing some products as gifts and for myself as well.

They had quite an assortment of bundled products in cute holiday packaging that made gift giving easier. I always wanted to try Jo Malone London’s fragrances since I have seen a lot of great reviews from fellow bloggers about their perfumes.

The Christmas Cracker Collection which consisted of 3 different miniature products. A cologne, a hand, and body wash and a body creme so I decided to go with that one. Ideally, it is a good size if you just want to test the products before buying the full sizes. At the time, the product scored a 4-star rating so I thought that was good enough.

One Of The Most Overrated Fragrances - Jo Malone London

My favourite fragrances are usually fruity or mild scents like blackberry, cinnamon, vanilla or lavender. However, each product in this set was the opposite. Not only is the cologne really strong and distinct but it has a smell I can’t explain. But if I had to describe it I’ll say that it smells like “cedar wood”. Also, it does not smell feminine to me and seems better suited for a man.

Whenever I am buying something I always read the reviews. So my purchasing decisions are heavily dependent on them whether good or bad. Why didn’t any of the feedback suggest that this is for men or even spoke about the strong scent of this perfume?

Disappointed With One Of The Most Overrated Fragrances | Jo Malone London Fragrances | Perfume | Product Reviews | Travel Beauty Blog

Perhaps I got carried away by the beautiful photographs and flatlays on Instagram and expected way more. Or, do people not buy products they enjoy anymore but rather buy because of the hype? I hope it is not the latter. So I ask myself what the rave is about for this brand? Maybe I was misled by popularity and needed to make a more informed decision before committing to purchase.

Buying a perfume should not require over-thinking right? Probably I chose the wrong product and there may be others that are great. At least I would like to believe so because honestly, I would like to give this brand another chance. But at the same time, I do not want to have a repeat of this situation. Jo Malone London products are expensive so that leaves little room for disappointment.

Have you used any of their products before and do you like them? Can you recommend a mild smelling fragrance and lotion from this brand? Are there any overrated fragrances you have used in the past that you think wasn’t worth it?

Bonus Tip

If you want a perfume that lasts all day ensure that it is EDP and not EDT. However, most women perfumes come in EDP by default which stands for Eau De Parfum. Men fragrances and colognes, on the other hand, tends to be EDT which stands for Eau De Toilette.

From my personal understanding, EDP perfumes cost a little more and should last much longer before fading as opposed to EDT. Which is contrary to my belief that men perfumes are stronger (lol).

That concludes the best perfumes I ever used and recommend. What are the best perfumes you ever used? Have you ever tried any of these listed here or can recommend some great smelling ones? Let me know down below 🙂
