Banana Raspberry Smoothie Recipe | How I Start My Day

Sharing is caring!

How I Start My Day

My alarm goes off between 5.45 and 6:00 a.m. and sometimes I have this really bad habit of checking notifications on my phone first thing as I open my eyes.  After doing so I would say my prayer and spend some time in meditation, make my bed and brush my teeth. Then I would take a shower, comb my hair, put on makeup and dress for work.

Since breakfast is the most important meal of the day, before leaving the house for work, I enjoy a glass of my favourite banana raspberry smoothie. Although not practical every day, I try my best.

What I Would Like To Do Differently

Before I started my work career I used to get up at 5 every morning and workout for an hour with Denise Austin. That used to be the best part of my day. Now it is a lot easier to exercise on afternoons after work. Getting up at 5 a.m. every day to fit in an exercise routine then having to work until 5:00 p.m. just does not work for me.

Two of my favourite quotes:

“The secret to success lies in how you start your day.” – Jasmin Waldmann, International Life Coach

“When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.”Marcus Aurelius

I particularly like this quote from Marcus Aurelius simply because I see life as a gift from God. Everyday I am grateful for being alive, having good health and strength. For having the best mother in the world and to be able to see and hear are just some of the things I am thankful for.

    • Yes especially on a Saturday morning before working out!

  • Mamabops

This smoothie sounds delicious! I used to make smoothies all the time a couple of years ago, then I fell out of the habit. Thanks for inspiring me again!

  • Martha DeMeo

I love smoothies and this is one of my favorite flavors! If I don’t have raspberries, I add strawberries. Such a healthy drink. Thanks for sharing your recipe.

  • Nikki Austin

I absolutely love a smoothing for breakfast. I use greek yoghurt. Although I really don’t like it, I cannot tell the difference when it is all blended up. 🙂

    • I don’t like greek yogurt either. So why are you using it? Well I guess if you can’t tell the difference after its blended then there must be a good reason to keep eating it lol

      • Nikki Austin

Dr’s Orders… Much healthier choice than the one I was eating before.

  • Sheila

This looks delicious. I have a hard time having a smoothie for breakfast because of all the sugar. Although it is natural sugar it is a lot of carbs for someone who has to watch their sugar levels. I would have to modify it, but it would be worth it. 🙂

    • You should really pay close attention to your sugar intake then. I wont advise against that 🙂

  • i also start my day with a good banana berry smoothie! such a perfect way to begin the day 🙂 xo, sharon

  • Andrea Bolder

I’ve never done raspberries before. Will definitely have to try this! Looks delisious.

    • You should try it Andrea if you like raspberries. If not, try using strawberries or another fruit of choice 🙂

  • GLOGEWORLD

Lol now I know I am not alone. First thing once I woke up to use the bathroom is to check my phone. I love smoothie a lot. Thanks for sharing.

    • lol I hate that I grab my phone first even without thanking the Lord for life. Its a habit I need to break sooner than later. Anytime!

  • Kimberly @ Berly’s Kitchen

Usually I see banana strawberry smoothies, but I love that you used raspberries instead. That makes it different. This sounds delicious. And, way to go for getting up at 5 a.m. and working out for an hour!

    • Kimberly I also love that one too. Banana strawberry but sometimes I switch things up. Oh and I used to get up at 5am. Can’t make those hours right now so I just exercise on afternoons. 😉

  • Dawn Zangerle

I love smoothies. I can’t stomach them for some reason first thing in the morning but I love them as a mid morning snack or even as a dinner. So good.

    • I love having them as dinner also. No special time for me to have a smoothie lol

  • Ooooh this looks so good, I’ll have to try this!

  • Betty Davies

I love raspberries, this sounds like a great way to start the day instead of my usual three cups of coffee!

    • HAHA thats for sure Betty. I love having coffee on some mornings as well. So If I don’t do smoothie, I do coffee or hot chocolate

  • Love smoothies, but I don’t like to put only frozen fruits as my smoothie is too cold.. I usually mix frozen fruits with “normal” ones.

    • This is also a great idea Umberta. Sometimes if I don’t have frozen fruits I just add a few blocks of ice to the blender.

  • Kayvona B.

I was just thinking to myself I need to make more smoothies! For sure going to try this out tomorrow!

    • That’s nice Kayvona. Let me know how it taste.

  • QuirkyEngineer

That is such a quick smoothie recipe, I definitely have to try it! Looks yum!

I’ve been meaning to start working out in the mornings but its simply too difficult to wake up early and get to it. I usually end up spending a lot of time going and doing blogwork before I get to the office for some real work. Do you ever feel that way??

    • I can relate! Working out on mornings just seems like a difficult task for me as well because it would mean I have to get up around 5am to start getting ready by 6. I don’t beat up about it. I just do it on afternoons which are so much more convenient.

  • Babies to Bookworms

Yum! I love smoothies and this one sounds so refreshing!

  • Jolina

Oh wow you wake up early 🙂 I wish I had that motivation! I would love to have that routine. And start my day with this amazing smoothie. Yum. (Though perhaps I can have it in the afternoon too!)

    • Hi Jolina I wake roughly at 6am which is not too early. This smoothie takes less than 5 minutes. My blender is usually already in place. I would just have to take the fruits out of the fridge and put them in, open a yogurt, pour in the milk and 1 minute or less blending time. I would wash the utensils when I get home on afternoon. But if you are pressing for time this is a great substitution for dinner or you can have it as an afternoon dessert.

  • Jade

I so have to try this. Looks delish

  • Patricia Conte

Love that you have a healthy routine going on! I find that a routine always works best for me. This smoothie sounds super fab!

    • Thanks Patricia. Routine works for me as well

  • YUM! This sounds so delicious. I’ll definitely be trying this one out.

  • Meagan Cheney

This looks really delicious! I used to make a protein shake every morning when I was pregnant, but have gotten out of the habit. Now I’m craving one.

    • Aww how nice! Nothing wrong with that!

  • Adrianna Vogel

Ahh that sound amazing! I actually got new blender last week so I am looking for great recepies like that! Thank you for sharing

    • Enjoy your new blender. Not a bad idea at all Adrianna

  • Marisa Hernandez

This looks good, I’ve been making green smoothies in the morning. I love the boost you get from it! It’s a perfect way to start the day!

    • Yup that boost is exactly what I need on mornings. I haven’t tried those green smoothies. They just look like bad taste to me lol

  • Sophie Beland

This looks absolutely delicious. Going to replace the milk with almond milk to see if it tastes as good as this looks! Being lactose intolerant brings it’s own challenges at times.

    • Oh yes I forgot about my lactose intolerant friends. But that’s a great idea. Let me know how it tasted.

  • Dzeneta Cavcic

Yum, I do this as well. It’s the best part of my day. Great recipe, thanks for sharing!

    • That’s great! Thanks Dzeneta! Anytime!

  • Kasia

I love raspberries too and make shakes with them often. The only problem is the seeds. I think the only way to get rid of them is to put the shake through the sieve but then it’s kind of hard if the shake is of a thicker consistency. What is your method to get rid of the seeds?

    • My shakes are on the thicker side lol. Umm the seeds don’t bother me. I just spit them out lmaooooooooo no method

  • This sounds SO delicious! I love anything with raspberries! Definitely going to try this recipe.
